Midtown - Atlanta
Midtown is situated between Downtown and Buckhead, providing easy access to both business centers and to the 135 office buildings within the district.
Midtown is cosmopolitan. Midtown is hot. And its growth has recently jumped west over the Downtown Connector into Atlantic Station and surrounding neighborhoods.
About 36,000 people live within one mile of the 10th and Peachtree streets intersection. Add another two miles to the radius and 138,000 people call the area home. The daytime workforce is 288,000.
Midtown stands apart from all other parts of the city because of the unparalleled collection of arts and cultural activities: the Fox Theater, the High Museum of Art, the Atlanta Symphony and a host of others.
Biltmore House30 5th Street, Midtown
The grand, 11-story Atlanta Biltmore Hotel and adjacent 10-story Biltmore Apartments were originally developed by John Bowman and financed by William Candler, son of Coca-Cola magnate, Asa Candler.
The Neo-Georgian detailing and restrained exterior design were intended to reflect the refined grace of the "New South" and appeal to its upper-class clientele. Located in an upper-class residential neighborhood, the Biltmore Hotel was close to downtown, but separated from the business district -- a convenient location due to an improved train system and increasing availability of automobiles.
The $6 million Atlanta Biltmore opened in 1924 amid great fanfare. A train was chartered to bring prominent hoteliers from New York City, and the opening dinner-dance that evening was broadcast nationally by radio. During the course of the evening, an amazing 1,000 cars made the circular sweep through the hotelŐs gardens and terrace drive.
The Atlanta Biltmore, known as the South's premier hotel, hosted galas, tea dances, debutante balls and recitals. Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Mary Pickford, Bette Davis and Charles Lindbergh stayed at the Atlanta Biltmore.
It was the original home of the Atlanta Historical Society.
WSB, the South's first radio station, broadcast from its studios inside the hotel, and the radio tower on the hotel roof became an Atlanta landmark.
In the face of competition from more modern downtown hotels, the Atlanta Biltmore fell into decline by the 1960's.
In 1997, the Novare Group purchased and renovated the Biltmore property. In 1999, the Biltmore Hotel building re-opened as Class-A office space, home to some of Atlanta's most innovative companies. The restored, opulent ballrooms are a special event venue with no rival in Atlanta.
The historic Biltmore Apartment building was converted into a luxury condominium, the Biltmore House.
Known for its beautifully restored lobby, grand entrances and historic architectural details, Biltmore House is located just across the street from the high-tech Georgia Tech/Synergy development.
Standing amid modern high rise residential, office and hotel buildings, the grand Biltmore House is one of AtlantaŐs few remaining historic buildings.
Interior spaces and systems have been renovated and updated. Residents of Biltmore House enjoy every modern convenience.
Biltmore House is one block from the shops and restaurants on Peachtree Street, and is an easy walk to MARTA and the Midtown and Downtown business districts.
